TDI Helitrox program launched
There is a new option for divers who want to use Helium gas as their first step into technical diving, the TDI Helitrox program.
Up till now, students who want to learn using helium as bottom mix have to complete the TDI Adv Nitrox and Decompression Procedures course, utilizing air as bottom mix to a maximum of 45m. However there had been more demand for the possibility of diving with helium as a first step into technical diving so as to reduce the onset of narcosis.
The TDI Helitrox course examines the theory, methods and procedures for planned stage decompression diving utilizing Helium in the breathing mixture. This program is designed as a stand-alone course or it may be combined with TDI Advanced Nitrox program. The objective of this course is to train divers how to plan and conduct a standard staged decompression dive not exceeding a maximum depth of forty five (45) msw and introduce the most common equipment requirements, gear set-up, and decompression techniques. Students are permitted to utilize Enriched Air Nitrox and Helium mixes with no greater than 20% He content, and up to 100% oxygen for decompression diving provided the gas mix is within their current certification level. Breathing gas mixtures containing more than 20% Helium or less than 21% oxygen are not permitted (+/- 1%).
